MATT PALAHNIUK FINISHED STRONG FOR THE VICTORY (Final Round)
The weather was perfect, the course was fantastic and we all thought we would be seeing birdies and great scoring heading into the day. With the heat the greens firmed up and with some tough pin positions scoring was made tough. The course only yielded six rounds under par all day with the low round of 68 going to Ryan Krisko of Rivershore Golf Links.
After an approx. 5 year absence from the Ogopogo Invitational due to a back and neck ailment Matt Palahniuk finished with three straight birdies to top his pursuers by one shot and win the 60th Annual Ogopogo Invitational. It was anyones day after the front nine with most of the players in the final two groups playing over par. At one point after the 13th hole it looked like Jeremy Osborne of Salmon Arm was making a move as he had a two shot lead but by the time the groups played the 16th we had a three way tie for first at 1 under par. On 17 Palahniuk made an eight foot putt for birdie while Osborne made bogey. In the final group following Palahniuk, Ben Proskiw also made bogey to give Palahniuk a little 2 shot cushion heading up 18. Osborne and Proskiw both played the 18th great and were able to both make fantastic eagles to get them to 2 under par while Palahniuk made a solid birdie to cap the victory.
Thank you to all of the tournament participants, members, volunteers and staff that all worked so hard to display the Kelowna Golf & Country Club at it's ABSOLUTE BEST!
THE TIGHT RACE TO VICTORY CONTINUES! (Round Two)
Following yesterday's thunder, rain and delays we had a clear day for golf at the Kelowna Golf & Country Club's 60th Annual Ogopogo Invitational on Friday. The thing that made the course tough was the wind on day 2. In blustery conditions all day I would say that in most cases "the course won today" with only 7 rounds under par in the 208 player field. The low round of the day belonged to Ben Proskiw of the Okanagan Golf Club, Matthew Palahniuk and Matt Dunn both of the Kelowna Golf & Country Club who all fired 3 under par 69's. The other under par rounds for the day were shot by Kelowna Golf & Country Club's Ryan Matiushyk (70), David Yukich (71), Greg Forbes (70) and Ross Gibson (71).
Heading into tomorrow's final round we have a three way tie at 3 under par between Miles Palahniuk, Ben Proskiw and Matt Kerr. Rounding out that final group of the day will be Thomas Ross who is sitting one shot back of the leaders after a two over 74 today. In the second to last group we have Jeremy Osborne, Matt Dunn, Jason Monteleone and Miles Palahniuk's brother Matthew. I am sure the two brothers will be both out to play their best for this golfing family.
One of the highlights of this year's tournament was a double eagle on the 16th hole. Michael Heenan of Capilano Golf & Country Club hit his second shot of over 200 yards right int the hole for a 2 on a par 5... WOW!
Tomorrow's leaders will tee off at 1:40 pm and likely finish up around 6:30 pm at which point we will move into the trophy presentation and awards. We will post a full list of results and a story on the day following the final round.

EARLY PLAYERS GOT THE COURSE AT IT'S BEST! (Round One)
After a beautiful morning and afternoon the weather made a drastic change. The winds kicked up, the clouds came in and the rain fell. With threatening skies the golf course was cleared and play was delayed due to the possibility of a thunder storm. After two short delays play resumed at approx. 6:30 pm and all players completed their round before dark.
The conditions were definitely different for anyone playing in the afternoon and evening but several of them made the best of it. As there were some great rounds shot in the late part of the draw.
Heading into the second round tomorrow (July 8th) there is a three way tie at 4 under par 68 between Miles Palahniuk (Okanagan Golf Club), Matt Kerr (Marine Drive Golf Club) and Thomas Ross (Vernon Golf & CC). Palahniuk finished his round with a strong stretch of closing holes capped with an eagle on the 18th. Both Kerr and Ross set the stage with strong front nines of 5 under par 31 for Kerr and 4 under par 32 for Ross. One shot back of the leaders is no stranger to the Ogopogo, Kelowna Golf & Country Club's Jason Monteleone. Morgan Decksheimer (Two Eagles Golf Club) and Jeremy Osborne (Salmon Arm Golf Club) finished their first rounds with a two under par 70. While Michael Heenan (Capilano Golf & CC) and Lance Johnston (Fairview Mountain Golf Club) fired a one under par 71. Six other players finished with even par rounds of 72 and six more at 73.
All in all having 20 players within 5 shots of the lead heading into the second round makes this anyone's tournament. Tomorrow forecast is for cooler temperatures and more stable conditions so it should be a great day.
ROUND TWO ACTION TO COME FOLLOWING PLAY (July 8th).....
