Another great day of tournament golf at the Kelowna Golf & Country Club in the final round of the 160 player Mens Invitational. After heading into the final round Darren Wallace of Predator Ridge held a two shot lead over The Okanagan Golf Club's, Miles Palahniuk and Salmon Arm's, Jeremy Osborne. But after a great front nine charge by Okanagan Golf Club's, Ben Proskiw things at the top tightened up. Miles and Jeremy slipped back a a couple shots while it became a two man battle in the final group. Wallace fired a front nine of even par while Proskiw managed to catch him and both of them headed into the back nine all tied up. After some birdies from both of them they stepped onto the 18th hole both at 7 under par. Proskiw and Wallace both hit less than their best drives and it appeared we may have been heading to a playoff, however, Wallace managed to make an incredible shot out of the trees to put it just off the edge of the green on his second shot on the par 5, 18th while Proskiw hit his 3rd shot to approximately 25 feet for birdie. Wallace chipped his 3rd shot to about 2 feet to make birdie and finish the tournament at 8 under par. Proskiw still had a chance to tie if he could sink his birdie. He made a great putt but it did not drop and Wallace was victorious.
The low rounds of the day were fired by Kelowna Golf and Country Club's, Matt Palahniuk of 5 under par 67 to put him in sole posession of 3rd place as well Ben Proskiw, Jeremy Bloom and Drew St. Cyr also all shot 5 under par 67's.
The winner of the Overall Low Net was Kelowna Golf & Country Club member Denton Corrigall with a pair of net 67's to win the Net trophy.
After a great day of golf with hot temperatures, green grass and lots of birdies it was Darren Wallace that is on top of the 160 player field heading into tomorrow's final round. His 5 under par round of 67 was capped off with a birdies on 16, 17 and an eagle on the par 5 18th. His closest pursuers are Okanagan Golf Clubs, Miles Palahniuk and Salmon Arms, Jeremy Osborne both at 3 under par 69. Ben Proskiw of the Okanagan Golf Club and Norm Bradley of the Kelowna Golf & Country Club finished their day at 2 under 70 while 5 others, Neil Schmidt, Ryan Brunn, Tyler Pitt, David Szestopalow and Glen Cross were in a log jam at one under par71 to round out the top ten.
Tommorrow the last group will head out at the tee time of 1:39 pm and should be completed by approx. 6:30 pm. Spectators are welcome so come on out and give the field your support.
