THREE-PEAT AT THE 34TH ANNUAL SENIOR MEN'S INVITATIONAL
After a successful title defence in 2010 Lindbjerg managed to win a third consecutive Senior Mens Invitational in 2011.
The day started with three tied at the top as Gudmund Lindbjerg and Ron Petersen of Pitt Meadows Golf & Country Club as well as Alistair Walker of Gallagher's Canyon all shot opening round 69's to give them a one shot lead over Bill Drummond of New Bellingham. Right behind Drumond was Kelowna Golf and Country Club's Wayne Schaeffer at 1 under par, 71.
As the final round unfolded no player in the leading foursome could take a commanding lead so it was a back and forth battle throughout the day. On the Par 5, 18th both Gudmund Lindbjerg and Bill Drummond went for the green in two but neither of them capitalized and at the completion of the hole we had a tie and were headed for a playoff between Lindbjerg and Drummond.
The sudden death playoff started on the par 3, 15th hole where both players hit the green with Gudmund hitting a great shot to about 6 feet right of the pin. Drummond had a very slippery left to right breaking put of about 24 feet. Drummond made a good putt but could not sink it and had a tap in left for par. Lindbjerg now had the birdie put for the win. Lindbjerg just burned the edge of the hole but could not sink the putt and both players made pars.
The playoff then moved on to the par 5, 16th where Drummond hit his tee shot up the left side of the fairway leaving him a bit of a tricky 2nd shot if he wanted to go for the green in two. Lindbjerg hit his drive to the right side and ended up with a very tricky awkward lie in the rough. Drummond hooked his second shot a little much and ended up getting into the trees while Lindbjerg hit an amazing second shot onto the green approx. 200 yards away to set up a birdie and win the playoff.
The 176 player field was treated to a fun filled tournament with excellent weather, tremendous playing conditions, great food and lots of stories. Thank you to all of the Volunteers and Employees that made this tournament a tremendous success.
