BIRDIES ON THE BACK NINE WERE THE KEY

After a solid 4 under par in the first round Mike Byland of the Kelowna Golf & Country Club birdied the first hole and then made bogeys on the difficult 5th and 6th holes but then followed them up with birdies on 7 and 9 to shoot a good one under par on the front nine. At this point is was still anyone's championship as there were 7 players within two shots after the front nine. This is where Byland stepped on the accelerator and rattled off birdies on Holes 11, 13, 14 and 16 to separate himself from his nearest competitors. A 4 under par 32 on the back nine giving him a total of 67 on the day paired with round one's 68 was enough to give him the Championship by 3 shots over Keith Martin of Gallagher's Canyon.

Lionel Taylor and James Casorso of Kelowna Golf & Country Club as well as Jeremy Osborne of Salmon Arm all finished at 5 under par while Matt Palahniuk and Justin Schultz were at 4 under par.

The winner of the Low Net category from the Okanagan Golf Club, Frank Servedio shot an impressive 15 under par total to give him a one shot victory over Round One leader Dave Collier as well as Predator Ridge's, Jordon Menzies.

Although the valley saw some cool temperatures and the first significant rain in months. It certainly was welcomed by all players to assist the region with the fires and smoke that has been prevalent in the valley for most of August.

Thank you to all 118 players and our tremendous KGCC Volunteer contingent.
