Matt Palahniuk Grabs the Victory!

Following the morning rain delay the skies cleared, the sun came out and the course showed it's teeth. Heading into the day Garrett Kucher of Sandpiper Resort held a 4 shot lead over Kelowna Golf & Country Club's Matt Palahniuk where things remained relatively the same until Kucher made a double bogey on the 8th hole. This opened the door for an exciting back nine and Palahniuk was up for the challenge. On the 11th hole Palahniuk made a great par from within the trees while Kucher made bogey. Then on the 14th hole Kucher hit his drive into the hazard and ended up making double bogey while Palahniuk made another steady par. Coming onto the 15th hole Palahniuk was in a familiar situation for him as he had held the lead here in prior years and let it slip away on this challenging par 3. He stood up and hit a great shot to about 15 feet left of the pin with a slick down hill putt for birdie. He hit it perfectly to make the putt and when Kucher made bogey he held a three shot lead. Kucher bounced back and made a birdie on 16 while Palahniuk made par.

In the end Palahniuk sealed the victory by rolling in a 20 footer for birdie on the 18th hole to shoot a two under par 70 and win by 4 shots. GarretT Kucher finished the day with a disappointing 6 over par to finish in a tie for second with Marine Drives, Doug Chivers and Bellingham's, Craig Roth. Right on their heels was Brett Moore of the Kelowna Golf & Country Club who shot a great round of 69 while the 2014 past champion William Deck playing out of the Harvest also played solid to match Moore with a total of 4 under par.

Keith Martin of Northview, Keenan Hall of the Kelowna Golf & Country Club and Jeremy Osborne of Salmon Arm all finished their tournament with one under par.

Thank you to all that played, volunteered and came out to watch this exciting three days of golf!

Kucher Has the Lead Heading into the Final

Heading into the final round it has been challenging weather with two rain delays (one in round two and one early in round three). With 18 holes remaining the stage is set. Skies are clearing weather is improving and the course is finally starting to dry out.

Garret Kucher of Sandpiper Resort is leading the field by 4 shots after some fantastic steady golf shooting rounds of 67 (round one) and 66 (round two). In second place heading into the afternoon play is Doug Chivers playing out of Marine Drive. Doug will be looking to close the 4 shot gap between his 7 under par total and Kucher's 11 under par total. Matt Palahniuk played his way back into the mix in round two with a 4 under 68 to give him a 36 hole total of 6 under par. Craig Roth and Keith Martin are both sitting right behind Palahniuk at 5 under par.

Other players carding under par 36 hole totals are Will Deck, Matt Dunn, Bruce Flemming, Finlay Young and David Szestapalow all at 2 under par while Brett Moore is one shot back of them with a 1 under par total.

With the weather clearing and the playing conditions moving more in the players favour we should be in for a great afternoon of golf.
